Kalvin Phillips sends three-word message to Jack Grealish after Man City beat West Ham 3-1 on Saturday

Jack Grealish made his first start of the 2024/2025 season in Manchester City’s 3-1 victory against West Ham United.

Pep Guardiola confirmed Savinho has suffered a knee injury that could keep him out for 10 days.

As a result, the Brazilian lost his place to Grealish — who started on the left-wing while Jeremy Doku was deployed on the right flank.

The £100 million man put in an impressive display at the London Stadium — making three keys passes, completed 36 out of 39 passes (93%) and won four out of his six ground duels — as per Sofascore.

However, the Manchester City winger was taken off in the 72nd minute, with Matheus Nunes replacing him.

Considering Grealish was injured at the start of the season, perhaps Pep Guardiola made the change for precautionary reasons.

Guardiola’s decision was vindicated as Nunes assisted Erling Haaland’s third goal.

Phillips hails Man City player after West Ham victory

Grealish sent a message to the City supporters after his side’s latest victory — expressing his delight at returning to the pitch and the result.

The 28-year-old played a major role in Haaland’s second goal as he drove with the ball into the box and found Bernardo Silva, who set off City’s intricate passing move in the lead-up to the strike.

Lee Carsley showed his faith in Grealish as he explained his reason for picking him in his latest England squad.

The former Aston Villa attacker could have gone into the contest against the Hammers feeling ten feet tall after his return to the Three Lions’ roster and it reflected in his assured performance.

Kalvin Phillips commented on Grealish’s Instagram post after Manchester City defeated West Ham.

The former Leeds United midfielder wrote: “Love it son!” on Grealish’s post. Phillips also commented on Nunes’ Instagram post to express his support towards the Portuguese international.

Jack Grealish formed a brilliant partnership with Kevin De Bruyne against West Ham

One observation that stood out from Manchester City’s latest win was how well Grealish and Kevin De Bruyne dovetailed with each other.

Julen Lopetegui would have anticipated Aaron Wan-Bissaka to be locking horns with the England international ahead of the game.

However, the former Manchester United right-back was often face-to-face with De Bruyne, who often played on the left flank.

Grealish and the Belgian expertly interchanged positions, linked up with each other and seemingly confused the Irons’ defence.

West Ham could pick neither up, who got on the ball on plenty of occasions and caused the hosts problems at the back.
