Manchester City fans were left in awe last night as Kevin De Bruyne laid on four assists for Erling Haaland in the team’s 6-2 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup – and an incredible statistic has now emerged about the Belgian.
City cruised to victory at Kenilworth Road, with Haaland and De Bruyne simply unplayable.
Luton gave it a go to their credit and scored twice in the game through Jordan Clark. But the visitors’ quality was too much, and two utterly world-class players were well and truly on their games.
De Bruyne‘s understanding with Haaland last night was telepathic, as the duo wreaked havoc on the Hatters’ defence.
It is potentially the most deadly combination in football, and Haaland’s ability to finish last night helped take De Bruyne’s assist tally to 11 for the season – and an amazing statistic has now come to light…
Only four other players in Europe have more assists than Kevin De Bruyne this season

It is safe to say that De Bruyne – who’s currently being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia – has been making up for lost time since returning from injury.
The 32-year-old missed the first half of the campaign after sustaining a serious hamstring, for which he required surgery.
But since he came back in early January, De Bruyne has been on fire and looks sharper than ever.
After last night’s game, De Bruyne now has 11 assists for the season, in just 12 appearances.
As reported by Squawka, that means only four players from Europe’s top five leagues have provided more across all competitions.
Those players are Florian Wirtz (17) – who has actually been linked with a move to City in recent times – Pascal Groß (13), Bukayo Saka (12) and former City winger Leroy Sané (12) (via Squawka).
One of the greatest midfielders ever
There can be little doubt at this point that Kevin De Bruyne is one of the greatest midfielders ever to kick a ball.
To have made 11 assists across all competitions in just 12 appearances is incredible, and that there are now only four players to have made more assists than him this season is unbelievable.
De Bruyne is a creative genius.
Of course, he is helped by having a world-class number nine in front of him, but we’ve seen him churn out assists at an amazing rate long before Haaland was a City player.
It is truly a joy to watch him, and hopefully he can stay fit for the remaining months of the season – more trophies will surely be on the horizon if that happens.
