Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has made some comments about Rodri that many Manchester City fans – and neutrals for that matter – will agree with.
The midfielder added another trophy to his cabinet last night, as Spain defeated England in the final of Euro 2024 in Berlin.
England’s luck in Germany finally ran out, with Spain deserved winners in the end.
They took the lead just after half-time through Nico Williams. Cole Palmer got England back on level terms to give the nation hope.
But Mikel Oyarzabal scored the winner in the 86th minute, and the wait for a trophy goes on for Three Lions fans.
Rodri only played the first-half in Berlin after he picked up an injury. But the night just capped off a wonderful season for him, and his manager de la Fuente said something after the game that many will agree with.
Luis de la Fuente calls for Rodri to win the Ballon d’Or after Euro 2024 win

It has been an absolutely extraordinary past couple of years or so for Rodri.
Following Spain’s Euro final win, a statistic did the rounds about Rodri and how many trophies he has won recently compared to defeats he’s suffered.
Incredibly, since the beginning of 2023, Rodri has won eight trophies and only lost four games.
His influence, both for Spain and Manchester City, is undeniable.
It has taken some time for Rodri to truly receive his flowers from the footballing world. He has been at the top of his game for a couple of years now, but there are finally some big compliments for the 28-year-old, and many people are suggesting him as a worthy Ballon d’Or winner.
After last night’s game, de la Fuente said he would like to see Rodri win.
He said (via ESPN): “For me Rodri is the best player in the world, please give him the Ballon d’Or now.”

If there is any justice, Rodri will be the next winner of the Ballon d’Or.
Rodri himself is not particularly concerned with individual awards, which is good for him. He just goes about his business in incredibly impressive fashion.
But it would be so nice for him to win it as a reward for his remarkable standards and consistency.
He has been front and centre of all the success Manchester City and Spain have had over the last couple of years, and it’ll be a travesty if he isn’t at least on the podium this time around.
But it’s hard to argue against him winning it outright. Rodri does absolutely everything despite being a holding midfield, and it’s about time his greatness wasn’t just normalised, but actually celebrated.
