Manchester City came from behind to beat Newcastle United on Saturday and this morning, Ally McCoist hailed Phil Foden for one specific skill he is always showcasing in games.
City took three huge points against the Magpies at St. James’ Park, with Kevin De Bruyne inspiring the comeback.
After Bernardo Silva scored a sublime goal to give City the lead, Newcastle scored goals through Alex Isak and Anthony Gordon.
De Bruyne came on and equalised within minutes of his introduction, before setting up Oscar Bobb to score in injury-time.
It was a fantastic show of character from City, who have sent a message to their title rivals with the result.
De Bruyne is getting most of the plaudits for his inspirational cameo, but this morning Ally McCoist ensured that Phil Foden got some credit for his display…

It was yet another fine performance from Foden for City, with the 23-year-old again playing centrally.
It is a position that he is absolutely thriving in right now, and he and many fans hope that he continues to get minutes there.
McCoist was on commentary for TNT Sports for the game on Saturday and praised Foden throughout, and this morning on talkSPORT, the Scot again hailed City’s midfield star.
There is one thing that Foden does regularly in games that McCoist feels he is truly the best at.
He said: “I tell you, Foden was tremendous as well, he really was. I haven’t seen anybody take it on the half-turn like Foden. There was a time in the first-half where he took it on the half-turn and he went away, and then two minutes later the exact same ball got played into him.
“But he knew he didn’t need to take a touch on the half-turn. So he let it go through him, and that little bit of magic took him away from two midfielders.”
Foden the half-turn master
This is something that is becoming a real trademark for Foden, as he continues to play in a central role.
The City academy graduate is absolutely amazing at getting between the lines, taking the ball in an instant and then carrying it towards the goal.
Peter Crouch clocked it early this season, believing Foden to be the best around at it.
It’s just the speed at which the £225,000-a-week star does it. Foden takes the ball after it’s fired into him, elegantly turns and before you know it, he’s bearing down on goal and everything is just so fluid.
It is simply a joy to watch, and hopefully even though De Bruyne is back, Foden can continue playing the role he has been in recent months.
