Manchester City headed into the first international break of the season as Premier League leaders.
With three games played, Pep Guardiola’s side have won all three, bagging nine goals in the process.
Following these three matches, several figures from City’s squad were picked to represent their countries for this current round of Nations League fixtures.
Now though, one particular city player recently delivered the sort of performance on the international stage that will have undoubtedly made a big point to Guardiola about what he can offer on the pitch.

Jeremy Doku shone in latest Belgium match
After starting all four of Belgium’s matches in the 2024 European Championship, Jeremy Doku started and completed 74 minutes of the Red Devils’ recent 3-1 Nations League win against Israel.
In the 21st minute, the winger provided the assist for his City teammate Kevin De Bruyne to open the scoring for Belgium.
Despite only having one shot at goal, which happened to be off-target, Doku made eight key passes in the game, which is more than any other player made in the match.
In addition to winning three fouls for his side, the 22-year-old also showed his defensive capability by making two tackles and one interception.
This display ultimately earned the City attacker an overall match rating of 8.3/10 from SofaScore, making him the second-highest-rated Belgium player on the day behind De Bruyne (9.2/10).
Doku has made a statement to Guardiola
Across the three Premier League games he’s appeared in for City this season, all of which he started, Doku has only made five key passes.
Having now made eight in one game for Belgium, this should prove to Guardiola that he deserves to keep his place in the team when domestic football resumes, even though he has the likes of Savinho and Jack Grealish battling it out with him.
With Ben White recently describing Doku as a “top” player, the Belgian will now be aiming to take this recent international form back to City and make sure he keeps his place in the team.
