Manchester City have shown how capable they are when it comes to signing young players from fellow English clubs.
For example, during the previous summer transfer window, City signed 19-year-old striker Divin Mubama from West Ham United, which was confirmed by the player himself in a post on his Instagram account.
Now though, even though the 2024 summer transfer window has closed, Pep Guardiola’s side have found themselves being linked with another English club’s young talent.

Man City eyeing Chris Rigg transfer move
According to a recent report from Give Me Sport, City, as well as fellow Premier League sides Chelsea and Liverpool, have registered an interest in signing Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg.
The report also adds that the 17-year-old is willing to stay at the Wearside club until the right move presents itself.
After making 31 combined appearances for Sunderland’s U18 and U21 sides, the midfielder now has 30 first-team games under his belt, bagging three goals in the process.
Rigg could be a top talent in the future
This season has seen the teenager, who Tony Mowbray dubbed an “amazing” player back in October (via Sunderland Echo), appear in all four of the Black Cats’ Championship games, starting three of them.
Despite not playing as many league minutes as other names in the Sunderland squad, Rigg currently has the highest rate of goal-creating actions made per 90 minutes (1.07) at the club.
This highlights how much of an impact the teenager has when he’s on the pitch.
With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Rigg has caught the attention of City as well as Chelsea and Liverpool.
Moving forward, if the youngster continues to have a strong season with Sunderland, securing a potential transfer move for him in the next summer window should definitely be something City consider.
