Manchester City recently got through the latest summer transfer window by adding two new players to their squad.
Despite only bringing in Savinho and Ilkay Gundogan, City were linked with transfer moves for a significant number of players across Europe’s top five leagues.
Now that the 2024 summer window has closed and the latest Premier League campaign has got underway, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the Manchester club’s stance on one particular player they have on their transfer radar.

Man City and Liverpool tracking Adam Wharton for next summer transfer window
A recent report from the Daily Mail had this to say about the interest that Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton had over the recent transfer window and what the next summer period could look like for him.
It said: “There was tentative interest in Wharton but primarily with a view to a potential move next summer. Liverpool and City [are] among the clubs now tracking the midfielder’s progress.”
Wharton could be a smart signing for City next summer
Back in June, it was reported that City had identified Wharton as a long-term transfer target.
During a press conference (via Crystal Palace) over the summer, Declan Rice described Wharton as an “outstanding” player after they were called up to be in England’s squad for the 2024 European Championship.
Having started all three of Palace’s Premier League games this season, the midfielder has racked up more recoveries (21) than any other player at the club.
He’s also made more passes into the final third of the pitch (13) than any other Palace player and has the second-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (11).
This highlights how much of a capable midfielder he is on and off the ball and why he could go on to become a smart signing for City in the future.
