Manchester City are reportedly keen to sign RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo, who has been likened to a young Luka Modric.

Pep Guardiola is seemingly in the market for a new wide player, after Riyad Mahrez left the Etihad Stadium.

Jeremy Doku has been heavily linked, and appears to be a priority now.

Michael Olise was also looked at, but he appears to be heading to Chelsea.

But now, it’s been reported that Olmo is on City’s radar.

City have already raided Leipzig once this summer, signing defender Josko Gvardiol for a £77.6 million fee.

Of course, City have now lost Kevin De Bruyne for an extended period after the Belgian got injured against Burnley.

So it’s possible we may see the club making a big effort to sign Olmo.

Dani Olmo plays like Luka Modric

City fans that don’t know too much about Olmo will be delighted to know that he has previously been compared to Real Madrid legend Luka Modric.

In recent days, the official Bundesliga website has run a feature on Olmo.

Olmo made headlines at the week for scoring a hat-trick against Bayern Munich in the German Supercup match.

They said of the Spaniard: “Olmo is seen as one of the most talented players in Spain’s current crop of midfield maestros. Yet just like Real Madrid serial winner Modric, Olmo – who speaks fluent Croatian – was once a firm favourite at Dinamo Zagreb and he stands out for his superb technical ability.

“The current Leipzig schemer’s skills were demonstrated with a brilliantly-taken goal against Costa Rica in Spain’s opening game at the 2022 FIFA World Cup – La Roja’s 100th in the competition. Like Modric, Olmo’s close control is also mesmerising to watch, and makes him decidedly difficult to play against.

“He couples that ability with his will to drive the ball at goal, be that when in possession or with threaded through-passes. Added to his exceptional ability on the ball – on display with his second of the night in Leipzig’s recent Supercup win – Olmo also has a taste for a long-range strike at the target should space open up.”

A very encouraging assessment

If Olmo is indeed like Modric then it would be amazing to see him in a City shirt.

Modric has been one of the very best players in the world for the last 10 years or so.

The fact Olmo plays a bit like him is really encouraging.

A move for him is probably unlikely. Leipzig have already lost one of their best players to City this summer.

But who knows. If the Lucas Paqueta deal falls through then we could be seeing City ramping up their efforts to sign Olmo.
