Bernardo Silva could leave Manchester City in the summer and Paris Saint-Germain could be his next destination.
Bernardo is one of the key members of Pep Guardiola’s City squad and has been for a number of years, but his future at the Etihad Stadium remains uncertain.
The Portuguese midfielder asked to leave the club in 2021 and 2022, but on both occasions, City did not receive any suitable offers.
While Bernardo is understood to be more than happy with the football side of things in Manchester, personal reasons are behind his desire to move back to mainland Europe.
Last summer his most likely suitors were Barcelona, but the Spanish giants never lodged an official bid due to their delicate financial situation. Now it appears that PSG will front the queue for Bernardo.
According to L’Equipe (via Get French Football News), PSG sporting advisor Luis Campos is already looking ahead to the summer transfer window after the Parisian club suffered yet another last-16 exit in the Champions League.
Despite boasting Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe among their ranks, the French champions succumbed to a 3-0 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich.
Now Campos wants to rebuild the club’s attack around Mbappe, and Bernardo is at the top of his shopping list.
As Pep Guardiola has admitted many times over the years, Bernardo is a unique player who is key to the way City play. He is one of the best technicians in world football, while he brings a sense of control and ‘pausa’ to the midfield in a way Kevin de Bruyne does not.
As shown by his cameos at left-back in recent months, his versatility is extremely useful too.
For those reasons, plus the fact his contract does not expire until 2025, City will command a sizeable fee for a player who has won four Premier League titles and has twice been named in the PFA Team of the Year.
However, City maintain a stance that they will not stand in the way of any player who wants to leave. That was the case with the likes of Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus, and the same applies to Bernardo.
Should PSG bring a suitable offer to the table then he will be allowed to leave.
