‘Obviously’: Ruben Dias says he really doesn’t want £43m player to leave Man City

Ruben Dias has admitted he hopes Bernardo Silva and Kyle Walker stay at Manchester City this summer.

Bernardo and Walker have both played key roles in City’s success since joining the club in 2017, but both could leave the club before the end of the summer transfer window.

Walker looks set to join Bayern Munich after rejecting a two-year contract extension offer from City.

It has been reported that the 33-year-old has agreed personal terms with the Bundesliga giants, although the two clubs have not yet agreed a fee.

On Tuesday, Pep Guardiola said he is “pretty sure Bayern will get it done.”

Bernardo is understood to be keen on a change of scenery after asking to leave the club last summer.

A move to Barcelona – his preferred destination – did not materialise then, and it seems unlikely that the Spanish club would be able to afford a move this summer either.

Dias sends Bernardo message

City supporters don’t want either player to leave, and it appears that feeling extends to their teammates too.

Speaking ahead of City’s pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich in Japan, Ruben Dias was asked his thoughts on the potential double-exit.

“[They are] two very important players. If they stay they’ll continue to be important,” the 26-year-old told reporters.

“It’s not my place to say anything else, [but] obviously I think all of us players, fans and staff would like them to stay.”

MCN view: Bernardo would be a huge loss

Both Bernardo and Walker are important players for City, although it’s fair to say that the loss of the former would be more difficult to cope with.

The 28-year-old Portuguese star is a unique attacker, managing to combine incredible technical ability and vision with tireless work rate and dedication.

Bernardo’s ability to play in multiple positions is also incredibly useful, particularly given the departures of Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez this summer.

It’s no wonder Dias and his teammates don’t want Bernardo to leave.
