While Txiki Begiristain is Manchester City’s sporting director, Pep Guardiola also seems to have a keen eye out for potential transfers.

Fairly so as Guardiola perhaps recognises the best fits for his system.

The £378,846-a-week man is also known for making several alternations to his setup and team throughout the season — meaning only a specific profile of players suits his side. Not only in terms of the quality they possess but their tactical intelligence and attitude towards being constantly tested by the Manchester City boss.

Journalist shares how long Pep Guardiola has been keen on Dani Olmo move

Pep Guardiola views Dani Olmo as a signing City should make should Kevin De Bruyne leave the club in favour of a move to the Saudi Pro League, as per a recent report.

The RB Leipzig attacker looks like he is in the form of his life — with three goals and two assists to his name at Euro 2024.

The Spaniard, who started only his second game at the tournament in the semi-final in his country’s 2-1 win against France on Tuesday is attracting interest from clubs in the Premier League and La Liga — considering his £50.6 million release clause expires on July 15.

In the latest episode of the Ranks FC podcast, journalist Dean Jones revealed that Pep Guardiola has been interested in signing Olmo for a year now.

Jones said: “I think Pep’s [Guardiola] interest and even the director’s interest goes back probably a year now, so when they first started looking at [Dani] Olmo and considering him as a transfer prospect.”

“I think there were even conversations about him early in the stages of last season to just gauge what the availability would be of him.”

Man City should try handing Guardiola Olmo signing if he is that interested

Considering how successful Guardiola has been and his eye for talent, Manchester City should do their best to try and sign Olmo if he is as interested as he seems in his signing.

The Catalan tactician has shown at both Barcelona and City in particular that he is a master of rebuilding his sides.

At 26, Olmo represents a player who is entering the peak of his powers and under Guardiola, he could turn into an undeniably world-class performer at the Etihad Stadium.

While City’s higher-ups perhaps do not simply adhere to their legendary manager’s demands, in special cases as the former Dinamo Zagreb attacker’s seems, they might be best-advised to do so and witness how he fares in sky blue.
