Vincent Kompany makes Man City Champions League admission

Vincent Kompany believes it’s just a matter of time before Manchester City win the Champions League.

City secured safe passage to the semi-finals of the Champions League this week with a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich in their quarterfinal second leg.

Pep Guardiola’s side defeated the Bundesliga 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium a week over, meaning they advanced with a 4-1 aggregate victory.

Despite the seemingly comfortable scoreline, City were made to work hard in both matches by Bayern, and were a touch fortunate not to concede in the first halves of both.

That said, City showed a defensive solidity and backbone that hasn’t always been present during their previous Champions League campaigns.

City have never struggled to score goals in Europe, but leaking goals at crucial moments has been a recurring theme.

Now that they appear to have addressed that, they look better placed than ever to go all the way.

For former City captain Vincent Kompany, City’s consistency over the last few months has put them in the perfect position.

But even if they don’t lift the famous trophy in Istanbul on June 10th, the Burnley manager feels City will break their Champions League duck sooner rather than later.

“Well I’ve been impressed by Man City for the last 10 years,” Kompany said.

“It’s what they do, it’s just a question of time. The consistency is too big for it not to happen eventually.

“It’s a very consistent club at the moment, they’re winning consistently, and they’ve got that momentum. Anything is possible for them this year again.”

City are only the third English club to reach the semi-finals in three consecutive seasons, and this year’s match-up is a familiar one.

Guardiola’s side will once again go up against Real Madrid, the inflictors of a painful semi-final exit last season.

Should they progress to the final then they will face either AC Milan or Inter Milan.
