‘He’s a tremendous talent’: BBC pundit can’t believe 21-year-old is even thinking about leaving Man City

Cole Palmer and Manchester City shouldn’t even be considering parting ways given the current situation at the club.

That’s according to BBC pundit and former Premier League midfielder Clinton Morrison.

Palmer has made a strong start to the season, putting in two impressive goal-scoring performances against Arsenal in the Community Shield and Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup final.

However, the 21-year-old academy graduate’s future at the Etihad Stadium remains uncertain.

With the likes of West Ham, Brighton and Borussia Dortmund all keen on signing Palmer, Pep Guardiola has admitted that the attacker could leave the club this summer.

Palmer himself said he had “no idea” whether or not he would stay at the club following reports City are trying to sign fellow 21-year-old winger Jeremy Doku from Stade Rennes.

Palmer has to stay

But with Kevin de Bruyne out of action until 2024 with a hamstring injury and City yet to replace right winger Riyad Mahrez, Morrison thinks both City and Palmer would be mad to decide to part ways.

“Yeah definitely, especially at the moments when they’ve lost players and got injuries to key players,” Morrison said on BBC Sport’s Football Daily podcast when asked if he was surprised by rumours of City selling Palmer.

“You’d think they’d keep him around, he’s a talented boy. I think he’s got natural ability, we saw with the goal he scored in the Community Shield against Arsenal and then a fantastic header the other night.

“He always wants to get onto that left foot, cut in and whip it into the far corner. I think he’s a tremendous talent.

“When you’re at a big club like that, why are you going to leave Man City? You’re learning from the best manager in the world.

“I understand he wants to play football, but I think he’ll get opportunities at City. So if I’m Cole Palmer, I want to stay there and work with the best.”
