Cole Palmer has sent a message to Pep Guardiola that he should be a regular fixture in his Manchester City team this season.
That’s according to former Chelsea and Scotland midfielder Craig Burley, who has been impressed with the 21-year-old’s start to the season.
Palmer scored City’s equaliser in their UEFA Super Cup triumph against Sevilla on Wednesday.
Ten days prior he scored a stunning goal against Arsenal in the Community Shield.
Palmer sends message
Speaking on ESPN FC, Burley argued that Palmer has given Guardiola a lot to think about.
“When we talk about these big signings, we forget about the likes of Phil Foden, Rico Lewis and Cole Palmer who have come through and played game time,” he said.

“Guardiola has talked about this, he’s talked about the academy players getting their opportunity. It’s not always about the big hitters but it is difficult to get game time in this City squad.
“But I suppose when Kevin de Bruyne is out [injured], Bernardo Silva is ill and Ilkay Gundogan has moved on, there is an opportunity there and Palmer has taken his early in the season. Brilliant goal in the Community Shield and a nice finish with a header here.
“He’s just sent his manager [a message] – look if these guys are not available or if you need me off the bench.
“Riyad Mahrez has gone as well – that’s a lot of firepower and match-winners. The young boy [Palmer] has stepped up early in the season.”
Palmer’s future at City remains uncertain
After the Super Cup, the academy graduate admitted that he has “no idea” whether he will stay at City this summer or not.
City are considering a move for Stade Rennais winger Jeremy Doku, a signing that would surely impact Palmer’s game time.
After the match, Guardiola said that Palmer might leave City on a permanent basis but not on loan.
