Manchester City could swoop for a young star at Paris Saint-Germain to replace Atletico Madrid-bound Julian Alvarez.

Manchester City are about to sign off on a record sale, with Alvarez to join Atletico for a whopping £82 million.

The Argentina international has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks, but it has now culminated in a move to La Liga for the player, with confirmation of the move expected very soon.

Alvarez was a great signing for City.

In his 103 appearances, he scored 36 goals and made 18 assists.

That kind of output could be tricky to replace, but Pep Guardiola will assess the transfer market and his existing options and come up with a solution.

One man who could be up to the task, is Bradley Barcola, who was offered as a surprise name by one report yesterday.

It has been suggested by Football Transfers that Manchester City could make a move for Pari Saint-Germain ace Bradley Barcola.

The publication claims they were told that the France international could be someone to watch out for, as Pep and his recruitment team ‘greatly admire’ the 21-year-old.

The club are said to have been ‘closely monitoring him for some time’. Indeed, there were reports about interest from City last summer.

PSG would be unwilling to sell Barcola given the late stage of the window we are now in. There is no suggestion of an asking price.

Barcola joined PSG from Lyon last summer for around £39 million, and made 42 appearances in his first season, scoring five goals and making nine assists.

Barcola highly unlikely for City

There is no doubt that Barcola is a serious talent, but it is difficult to see him making a move to City this summer.

In terms of him being a potential replacement for Alvarez, £109,000-a-week gem Barcola mostly plays out wide. Alvarez very rarely played out wide for City.

Perhaps him signing would prompt someone like Oscar Bobb to move centrally, but it really would be a shock if he was someone City went for.

Maybe he is someone City will move for in time. He has only been at the Parc des Princes for a year and PSG would probably demand a fortune for him this summer to let him go.
