Manchester City have reportedly made an enquiry over Royal Antwerp midfielder Arthur Vermeeren.

The 18-year-old has apparently emerged as a target for City, following a very impressive start to his fledgling career.

Vermeeren has already been a regular in Antwerp’s starting XI for 12 months.

Last season, Antwerp won the Belgian league, and Vermeern featured prominently throughout their amazing season.

It was the club’s first title in 66 years.

Vermeeren, a holding midfielder, is set to go to the very top.

He should make his debut for Belgium over the international break, having been called up for the first time by manager Domenico Tedesco.

Manchester City keen on Arthur Vermeeren

According to 90min, City are one of several clubs now taking an interest in Vermeeren.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also understood to have made enquiries.

And away from the Premier League, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus are all keeping tabs.

It is stated that Barcelona were paying particularly close attention to Vermeeren when the two sides met in the Champions League last month.

Before that game, Mark van Bommel joked that he would not give his former Barcelona teammate Xavi any information about Vermeeren, as the Barca head coach would probably buy the youngster ‘immediately’.

Vermeeren is described by Football Espana as having ‘excellent vision and reading of the game’, and someone who is ‘often stepping forward to shut down attacks’.

De Bruyne and Doku presence could help Man City land Vermeeren

Vermeeren has certainly made a fantastic start to his career and you would imagine it will not be long before he is prised away from Antwerp by another club.

It will be interesting to see if that club will be City.

Obviously at the moment City have two Belgians at the club in the form of Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku, who has really impressed as a new signing.

And there have been others at the club previously, such as Vincent Kompany, Dedryck Boyata, Jason Denayer and Romeo Lavia.

We shall see if anything develops, but City do have Maximo Perrone currently out on loan. So perhaps the club would see where he’s at first.
