In the summer of 2023, Arsenal and Manchester City were embroiled in a brief transfer tug-of-war to sign Declan Rice.
Before the Englishman decided to join the Gunners, Manchester City were confident about signing Rice.
Rice preferred Arsenal’s project over Manchester City’s, which dictated his decision to make the move to the Emirates Stadium.
However, City have a chance to exact revenge on Mikel Arteta’s side by one-upping them this summer.
Man City should reignite Morgan Gibbs-White interest amid Arsenal links
Morgan Gibbs-White, a player Manchester City were interested in signing has now drawn Arsenal’s attention.
So much so that Arsenal have shortlisted Gibbs-White as one of the options to bolster their number 10 position alongside Eberechi Eze and Morgan Rogers.

However, with Manchester City prepared to sell Nico Gonzalez, they should re-ignite their interest in the Nottingham Forest midfielder to replace the potentially outgoing Spaniard.
Manchester City considered Gibbs-White overpriced at £70 million but he would replace Nico perfectly — as he too is capable of playing in central midfield and further forward as well.
The England international is far more of a spark in the final third as well, registering seven goals and 10 assists in the Premier League for Forest last season.

Pep Guardiola spoke to Gibbs-White after Manchester City beat Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semi-final and at the time, the player was heavily linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium.
Much like Tijjani Reijnders, the former Wolves technician is a complete midfielder — who would bring an expansive range of passing, bundles of energy, dominance in duels and the ability to carry the ball over long distances.
Manchester City would not only be adding quality to their squad by signing Gibbs-White but potentially replace Nico and perhaps more pertinently, weaken Arsenal’s title challenge by winning the race to secure his services.
How close Man City were to signing Morgan Gibbs-White
However, City may only make a move to sign the Stafford-born star if Nico decides to leave before the start of the 2025/2026 season.
Nottingham Forest expected Manchester City to sign Gibbs-White, with the player’s teammates expecting him to make the move as well and if they reignite their interest, that could be troubling news for Arsenal.
With the summer transfer window always promising twists and turns, the plot could very well thicken in the coming weeks.
