Man City could ruthlessly sell £53m player if he fails to impress Pep Guardiola this season

It’s an annual occurrence to see numerous players move in and out of Manchester City during summer transfer windows.

For instance, the previous window saw the likes of Julian Alvarez, Sergio Gomez, Liam Delap and Joao Cancelo bring an end to their time as City players to join new clubs elsewhere.

Following those departures, Pep Guardiola has seen his side go unbeaten in all competitions at this stage of the campaign.

Even though the next summer transfer window is a long way off, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged that one particular figure in the City squad would not like to see.

Man City to sell Matheus Nunes if he doesn’t impress Guardiola

A recent report from Give Me Sport has claimed that City are “refusing to rule out the possibility of cashing in” on Matheus Nunes in the summer and that there is “a good chance of him being sold in the summer if he does not make a telling impact during the rest of the season.”

The report also adds that Nunes is “determined to make the grade at Manchester City, resulting in him telling key decision-makers behind the scenes that he is dedicated to working hard to make it into Guardiola’s preferred starting line-up, but his current employers are still entertaining sanctioning his departure within the next 12 months.”

Nunes has shared his main aim at City

City paid £53m to bring the Portuguese international to the Manchester club from Wolves back in the 2023 summer transfer window.

Since then, prior to City’s Champions League match against Sparta Prague, the 26-year-old has started just 16 of the 37 matches he’s appeared in across all competitions.

Back in May, towards the end of the midfielder’s debut season at City, it was reported that Guardiola sees Nunes as a useful player and wants to give him more minutes.

More recently, having only played 25 minutes of action across five substitute Premier League appearances this season, Nunes said this about what his main aim is to do at City in this campaign.

He said: “I want to win the Champions League. This is my top one dream.

“City is always fighting for every title, they won it two seasons ago, and this year we’re going to fight for it, of course. And I’m in the best place to do so.”

With Nunes said to potentially be in danger of being sold in the summer, he’ll have to make sure he makes the most of any opportunities that come his way this season and show Guardiola why he deserves to be at the club.
