Manchester City have had several very consistent performers this season, and the club are now lining up a new contract for one star.

Manchester City went top of the Premier League on Saturday evening after beating Southampton 1-0.

Erling Haaland scored his 14th goal of the season, and his first in the league after a three-game mini drought.

City were again not at their ruthless best. But credit must go to Southampton for the way they played at the Etihad Stadium. Before the game, not many people would have tipped the strugglers to lose by just one goal.

City have several good performers on the day, and it was yet another fine performance from Josko Gvardiol.

And after yesterday’s game, a report emerged which clearly shows the club are very pleased with him right now.

Gvardiol has been heavily involved so far this season for City.

Up to now, he’s made 14 appearances across all competitions, and played over 1000 minutes.

The injury to Nathan Ake earlier this season has allowed him to thrive unchallenged, and it’s clear he’s a firm favourite with Pep Guardiola right now.

The Daily Star reported yesterday that City are now looking to reward Gvardiol for his fantastic start to life at the Etihad.

The club are looking to bump up his wages from £120,000 per week to £150,000 per week. The club would also like to extend his deal by a further two years.

He took a few months to find his feet in English football but arguably, he now looks to be one of the very best defenders in the Premier League.

Gvardiol has totally locked down that position on the left of City’s defence.

Technically he is brilliant, and he is just so solid when it comes to actual defending.

Rodri recently branded Gvardiol ‘quality’, and few City fans would disagree with that assessment from what he’s shown so far.

Nathan Ake has a major battle on his hands to get regular minutes for City now. The Dutchman will be needed this season, but right now, Gvardiol is far ahead of him in the pecking order.

It is still very early days for Gvardiol at City. But having seen how complete he already is at the age of 22, there
