The time might have come for Kevin De Bruyne and Man City to part ways. Fans are feeling mellow after the Belgian’s tired performance against Liverpool.

Kevin De Bruyne has undoubtedly been one of Man City and the Premier League’s best players of the last nine years.

His talent has helped to stamp City on the footballing map. But Man City fans have been left feeling rather blue after watching De Bruyne return to the XI for the 2-0 defeat against Liverpool, and really struggle.

The 33-year-old just couldn’t make simple passes. He looked leggy and lacking in confidence in a game that he would’ve otherwise dictated a few years ago.

Man City fans agree time is up for Kevin De Bruyne after Liverpool defeat

After a miserable first half display, fans were watching De Bruyne’s performance and saying “it’s upsetting now”, as a similar comment said it’s the “end of an era”.

De Bruyne “isn’t the same” said another supporter. One even said: “Time for Kevin De Bruyne to hang up his pots.”

A lengthier comment read: “It’s sad to see, but De Bruyne isn’t the player he was. He can’t keep up with the game anymore.”

Meanwhile, this fan posted: “If James McAtee isn’t on for De Bruyne at half time you’re basically telling him he can leave. Painful watching the decline of our greatest ever.”

A similar comment was: “It’s truly sad to see how De Bruyne can’t keep up this level of intensity. Obviously he will go down as our greatest player but his legs are definitely gone.”

Pep Guardiola knows who he wants to replace Kevin De Bruyne at Man City

Out of contract in the summer, it looks as though De Bruyne will leave the Etihad in the summer and move in to pastures new.

The time has come for city to make some wholesale changes and one player who City have identified is Florian Wirtz at Bayer Leverkusen.

Man City are linked with Wirtz who Guardiola reportedly views as De Bruyne’s heir at City. The 21-year-old has nine goals and 10 assists in 23 Bundesliga outings for Xabi Alonso’s side this season.

Though it’s a deal that could cost City upwards of £100million and so Guardiola needs to be sure that Wirtz is the right man to replace De Bruyne.
