Man City fans angry about one of their players being scapegoated as he was absolutely unreal vs Liverpool

Manchester City fans did not have many reasons to crack a smile after their latest 2-0 defeat against Liverpool.

While Arne Slot lauded Manchester City for how well they dominate the ball, that ultimately counted for nothing as the visitors were far more decisive in the final third than them at the Etihad Stadium.

Mohamed Salah and Dominic Szoboszlai scored and assisted each other for both goals as Liverpool did the double over this City side.

Manchester City perhaps exceeded expectations by putting in what was a commendable display against one of the best teams in the world.

But it is clear to see that as Gary Neville said, Manchester City need a rebuild as large chunks of this squad are either past or their best or in poor form. Phil Foden was slammed by Manchester City fans, as he falls in the category of Sky Blues players who have simply failed to step up this campaign.

But one player who has since making his way to Pep Guardiola’s side is Abdukodir Khusanov, who City supporters stuck up for as he has been criticised since arrival despite once again bossing proceedings against Liverpool.

Man City fans fuming at Abdukodir Khusanov being unfairly picked on after Liverpool clash

One Manchester City fan sang Khusanov’s praises even before their clash against Liverpool as he slammed Micah Richards for claiming that the 20-year-old has “looked out of his depth”, saying: “Micah Richards, ‘Khusanov has looked out of his depth’ so far. 0 mention of a commendable performance in the Bernabeu mid-week following a solid one against Newcastle too. Manchester City club ambassador there.”

A City fan feels Khusanov is being considered a liability by several commentators due to his rocky debut against Chelsea despite being brilliant ever since: “Everyone thinks Khusanov has been poor because of that error v Chelsea and because commentators are weirdly trying to condition everyone into believing that. But the reality is he’s been our best defender since he joined, and quite comfortably.”

A third Manchester City supporter added: “Media pushing, ‘Khusanov can’t cope with the new league’ narrative needs to stop. Dear God. He’s been wonderful.”

A fourth Manchester City fan claimed that due to how the commentators and pundits are discussing the Uzbek centre-back, an untrue narrative is being formed about him, saying: “Never ceases to amaze me, the impact commentary/pundits can have on your opinion of a player as we’ve seen with Khusanov of late. For a new signing coming into a mess of a team, at such a young age, and slightly early in his development. He’s done so well.”

Another fan hailed Khusanov for how well he has done, especially considering the youngster has played against top sides like Chelsea, Real Madrid and Liverpool already: “Khusanov has been thrown into the deep end against Madrid, Liverpool, Chelsea and he’s come out looking impressive in every single game, serious respect for him.”

Finally, a sixth Manchester City supporter named Khusanov as his side’s best signing from the winter transfer window over Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez and Vitor Reis: “Khusanov is lowkey our best signing. What a player, he’s nuts.”

Khusanov stats vs Liverpool prove Man City fans right

Considering Khusanov has largely been excellent for Manchester City, it would be bizarre to him to be viewed as one of Pep Guardiola’s major reasons to be concerned.

It could be argued that while Nico, Marmoush and Reis are still settling in at City, the former RC Lens defender looks instantly ready for Premier League football.

Khusanov’s statistics against Liverpool sum up how top-class of a talent he looks like.

Khusanov’s defensive statistics certainly indicate how impressive he was, making six clearances and a heroic last-man tackle to stop Szoboszlai from scoring what seemed like a certain goal.

While in possession, the Manchester City new-boy completed the most passes (89) out of any player on the pitch.

All in all, Khusanov looks like a top player in the making and humble pie could be in store for his sceptics in the near future.
