Man City fans are making one suggestion about Matheus Nunes after Wolves cameo

Manchester City made it 31 games unbeaten in the Premier League on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Wolves.

That 31-game unbeaten run is a new club record for City, who have now not suffered defeat since against Aston Villa back in December.

Manchester City left it very late against Wolves.

It was a big defensive effort from the hosts, and it took a special strike from Josko Gvardiol to breach Jose Sa in goal, after Jorgen Strand Larsen gave them the lead early on.

City dominated in terms of possession and chances.

But it was tricky to find an opening, with Kevin De Bruyne and his vision and desire to take risks really missed. Wolves also carried a bit of a threat on the counter, and City arguably missed Rodri to snuff those attacks out.

But it was that man John Stones again who popped up at the death to score for City. There was controversy due to Bernardo Silvaโ€™s involvement, but the goal was given and it was a big three points in the end.

One man who some City fans have been talking about since the game is Matheus Nunes, with the midfielder making a lively cameo at his former stomping ground.

Nunes has been rather a peripheral figure since his ยฃ53 million transfer from Wolves in the summer of 2023.

He has found starts hard to come by due to the level of competition being so high, and the jury is still out on him for a number of supporters.

But Nunes has had some positive cameos this season. Against West Ham United, he supplied a great assist for Erling Haaland.

Against Wolves, he only got around 10 minutes, but it was he who made an important tackle to win City the ball back and progress up the field. City gained territory and then eventually scored through Stones from the corner.

After City today uploaded a clip of his brilliant tackle against Wolves, some fans have suggested it is now time for Nunes to get more minutes.

A window of opportunity for Nunes

There is certainly now a case to be made for Nunes to be starting games more consistently for City.

Mateo Kovacic has done fairly well so far this season, but sadly the same cannot really be said for Ilkay Gundogan, who has not made the seamless transition many thought he would.

The German appears to be lacking that consistency and quality he had the first time around, and he has not been particularly influential.

He signed with City perhaps not intending to have him as a regular starter, and that should not have changed given the injury to Rodri. Because after all, this is someone who is about to turn 34 in a few days.

Really, at this point, Nunes needs to be given a proper chance for City.

Perhaps if he is given the chance to build some momentum, City fans will finally start to see the very best of him.

He is a player on the managerโ€™s radar. Recently, Pep Guardiola hailed Nunes as โ€˜uniqueโ€™, and someone with โ€˜special qualitiesโ€™. So there is every chance for Nunes to gain prominence now, but he must find that consistency.
