Despite just being 29, Leroy Sane is on the verge of leaving Bayern Munich to prolong his footballing career in Turkey by signing for Galatasaray.
The German has endured a mixed bag of a spell at Bayern since leaving Manchester City in 2020 but even so, it seemed like he would remain determined to fulfil his extraordinary potential.
But Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Sane is set to sign a three-year contract before sealing a shock transfer to Galatasaray, which is the kind of move top players tend to make a few years before retiring.
However, Sane has struggled since departing Manchester City and it seems like the two-time Premier League winner may no longer be looking to become an elite player.
Arsenal were interested in Sane but the Turkish Super Lig is set to be the Bayern wideman’s next destination; a decision that has led Manchester City fans to have their say.
Man City fans deliver honest verdict about Leroy Sane joining Galatasaray
One Manchester City fan was upset about Leroy Sane’s impending move to Galatasaray as he simply wrote: “So much potential wasted.”
A second supporter feels that the four-time Bundesliga winner must regret leaving the Etihad Stadium in the first place as his career has not panned out as expected: “I had really wished this demon had succeeded at Man City but he made a decision which I think he has completely regretted. He was untouchable under Pep. Good luck, Leroy Sane.”
Another Manchester City fan posed the question of whether any player who has departed the Sky Blues in the past few years succeeded elsewhere after coming across the news about Sane being likely to become a Galatasaray player: “Genuinely curious. Has any City player left City and had a better career? I thought Sane would. But he never reached his potential at Bayern and [he’s] now going to Turkey.”
A fourth Sky Blues supporter claimed that whoever suggested the Essen-born wideman to leave City in favour of a move to Bayern in the first place had a negative impact on his career: “Sane should’ve never left City. Yet another player who failed to reach his full potential because of poor advice.”
Another fan admitted that they would love to hear Sane’s side of the story about why he left Manchester City, stating: “I’d love to hear his perspective on this after his career ends. There’s a good chance it’s true and if so, it probably feels like watching someone you once loved walk away thinking they could do better only to realise too late that they lost more than they gained.”
But a sixth Manchester City fan had a completely different perspective on Sane’s move to Galatarasay, as he was confident the player would not sign for a fellow Premier League club: “Was never going to sign with a Prem team. Leroy is a blue.”
The fact that despite having left Pep Guardiola’s side in 2020, Sane continues to create such amount of discourse among the City fanbase shows how loved he was by them.
What Pep Guardiola said about Leroy Sane before his Man City exit
In July 2020, Pep Guardiola admitted that he would loved Sane to stay at Manchester City and in hindsight, perhaps the player would have stayed and become a club legend rather than moving to Galatasaray five years later.
At the time, Guardiola told reporters Sane was keen to play for Bayern: “It looks like it but it is not already done. There are some little issues but it looks like he is going to go to Munich. We wish him all the best and big thanks for our years together.”

“He will have another chapter at a fantastic club in Bayern Munich.”
“He wanted to leave. Everyone has their own life and he decided to move on. I would have loved for him to stay but he believed he would be better and happier there.”
