Man City fans say whether they want to sign Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie after Fabrizio Romano’s transfer news

Destiny Udogie is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and he has now been linked with a move to Manchester City this summer.

But while the Tottenham Hotspur defender had an impressive campaign last season, his displays have declined this campaign as Spurs as a whole have regressed under Ange Postecoglou.

However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester City have added Udogie to their shortlist while guaranteeing that the Sky Blues sign a brand-new left-back this summer — with Juventus technician Andrea Cambiaso being their first-choice target to bolster the right-back department.

Romano revealed on GiveMeSport that Hugo Viana “appreciates” the Italian international and has been tracking him since his time at Udinese — with City rating the 22-year-old highly as well due to his age, physicality, Premier League-proven status and ability to play on both flanks.

But Manchester City fans have now had their say on a potential move to sign Udogie.

Man City fans deliver Destiny Udogie transfer verdict

Destiny Udogie is a huge fan of Kyle Walker and while he might have the potential to become a world-class defender in the future, one Manchester City fan was adamant that Hugo Viana should make a move for his Tottenham teammate Djed Spence: “Djed Spence, the better player is right there, English as well, but Cambiaso is still my number one option.”

A second Manchester City fan feels that Udogie is simply not at the required standard defensively to play for Pep Guardiola’s men: “Udogie isn’t a good defender. No thank you. (2030 contract anyway, so likely not happening thankfully).”

A third Manchester City fan questioned why Udogie is even being targeted, claiming that Tottenham have better full-backs and a right-back being a bigger transfer priority: “Wrong Spurs fullback…Besides we need a RB more man, what are we doing?”

But another supporter suggested that they would be happy if City make a move for the former Udinese defender: “I was expecting City to be continuously linked with players non-stop as we approach summer. We’re 100% proving hard every avenue. Not happy about the overrated English passports but homegrown quota is critical. Cherki, Cambiaso, Udogie.”

A fifth Manchester City fan stated that Udogie would be an excellent summer signing, writing: “Big fan of Udogie…difficult one to get done…Cambiaso in the frame still…summer fun.”

A sixth City supporter also stated that the Spurs wonderkid is the type of full-back that the club need to bring to the Etihad Stadium: “This is the sort of player we need, strong in possession and defensively. He may not be in his best form this season but first season [at Tottenham] should say enough.”

How Udogie performed vs Man City the last time they faced Tottenham

It seems like Manchester City fans are divided over whether Udogie should be their left-back of choice in the transfer market. The deal could be a difficult one to get one done, with Manchester City trying to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham in 2021 and failing to do so.

But as Manchester City’s sights are firmly set on signing Udogie, here is a statistical insight into how he played when Tottenham lost 1-0 in March.

DESTINY UDOGIE STATS IN TOTTENHAM 0 MAN CITY 1
DRIBBLED PAST0
DUELS WON9/12
TACKLES7
ACCURATE PASSES36/37 (97%)

The stats show that Udogie especially stood out defensively against Manchester City, as he was not dribbled past even once, won nine out of 12 duels, made seven tackles and misplaced just one out of 37 passes.

But Savinho managed to impact proceedings in the first-half in particular, which reflects that the numbers are not the only way of judging the Tottenham man’s display and a move would certainly be a risk.
