Man City fans want Pep Guardiola to change ‘extraordinary’ player’s position after Huddersfield display

Manchester City fans have asked Pep Guardiola to change the position of one member of the legendary coach’s squad after his display against Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The Premier League giants looked comfortable against the League One outfit and booked their place in the fourth round courtesy of goals from Phil Foden and Savinho, who scored on either side of the break.

Foden stole the show against Huddersfield as the midfielder was influential in everything good Man City created; however, the Brazilian had a mixed display against The Terriers, having returned to the starting XI for the first time since his latest injury.

Guardiola opted to play Savinho on the left rather than his usual role on the right, and Man City fans have asked for the winger to be kept in this position.

Man City fans call for Savinho to play on the left

Jeremy Doku is in the form of his life at present, and the left wing position in Guardiola’s squad belongs to the Belgian after the impressive start he has made to the season.

At this moment of the campaign, it will be hard for Savinho to start in that role; however, Man City fans have called for the Brazilian to be kept on the left whenever possible after scoring against Huddersfield on Wednesday night.

One Man City fan said on X (formerly known as Twitter): “Savinho is alright off the right, but most of his best games for us came off the left. Doku is brilliant there at the moment. But Bobb shouldn’t be starting on the right.”

A second supporter of the Manchester club added: “Savinho is only a goal scorer from the left, be it Premier League or Carabao Cup.”

A final Man City fan commented on the topic with: “Don’t know what everyone else thinks, but Savinho definitely should play on the left for us.”

Guardiola showed during the FIFA Club World Cup that he has big plans for the Brazil international this season, and even labelled Savinho as “extraordinary” ahead of the current season, so it will now be very interesting to see how the 21-year-old is used over the coming months.

There is a strong case for Savinho to be played on the left

The 2023/24 campaign was the best of Savinho’s career as the winger scored 11 goals and assisted a further 10 to help Girona qualify for the Champions League, while that season also secured his move to Man City.

The La Liga club’s coach, Michel, used the Brazilian on the left wing that season, but that is a role the 21-year-old has rarely played in at the Etihad Stadium.

Savinho scored a goal and an assist against Leicester City last season while playing in the role, and followed that up with a hat-trick of assists against West Ham

The stats show that the Man City star is better at producing from the left side, and it might be something Guardiola considers more going forward, especially after fending off Tottenham’s interest in Savinho during the summer.
