Man City have a talent who can really become the next Florian Wirtz, he is ‘quite similar’ to Cole Palmer

It seems like Florian Wirtz is set to be embroiled in the biggest transfer saga of the summer as Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Liverpool are all interested in signing him.

Wirtz is Pep Guardiola’s dream signing and it is believed that even if Jamal Musiala had not extended his contract until 2030 in February, the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder would have been the Catalan’s preferred creator.

Manchester City have met Wirtz in person but they are not the only ones to have done so.

Wirtz held a meeting with Liverpool as well as Bayern Munich upon his trip to England.

Florian Wirtz is a wanted man and understandably so, considering the lofty heights the 21-year-old has already hit in his career.

Man City star Oscar Bobb could become the future Florian Wirtz

However, in the event that the Leverkusen technician either decides to sign a contract extension or reject a move to City, Oscar Bobb is someone who could morph into a similar player to him in the future.

The Norwegian is nowhere near Wirtz currently, considering his career is yet to take off at the Etihad Stadium and he has spent the entirety of the ongoing season injured.

But when comparing both players’ profiles, it is easy to see why Bobb and Wirtz are similar.

First and foremost, the 22-year-old is a natural creator — with his assists for Bernardo Silva in the FA Community Shield as well as to Maximo Perrone against Celtic in pre-season demonstrating his unique eye for a pass.

Bernardo Silva tipped Bobb for a “bright future” and justifiably so as even as a technician, he is comparable to Wirtz due to possessing a sublime first touch, incredibly quick feet and impeccable close control.

So far, Pep Guardiola has largely played the Oslo-born talent on either flank.

But Bobb is a natural number 10 who can also influence games from out wide, much like Wirtz, as was evidenced by his famous late winner against Newcastle last season.

Brian Barry-Murphy likened Bobb to Cole Palmer by stating that they are “quite similar” and if given an extended run in the side, he could become a superstar like the Englishman as well.

How good Man City think Oscar Bobb is

But first and foremost, the versatile attacker requires time to get back to full match-sharpness after returning from a lengthy spell out due to injury.

But Manchester City are huge admirers of Bobb and believe he is a talent comparable to Palmer, which perhaps explains why he could hit the same heights as Wirtz one day.

Journalist Dean Jones revealed: “The real intrigue will come in terms of understanding how Man City actually keep this player happy because this guy needs minutes, there’s no doubt about it.”

“There are other teams starting to wonder if he might be available on loan. So far that’s not the case but he is so good I’m actually putting him in that Cole Palmer bracket.

Dean Jones concluded: “I think City kind of are too, and he’s that good they’re probably scared of losing him and he goes and bangs somewhere else like Cole Palmer has done.”
