‘I couldn’t believe it’: Jack Grealish stunned by stat he read about Man City before CL semi-final

Jack Grealish admitted he was left stunned by a statistic about Manchester City’s record in the Champions League.

On Wednesday night City stormed to a second Champions League final in three years, beating Real Madrid 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-finals.

The two giants drew 1-1 at the Bernabeu in the first leg a week ago, but at the Etihad Stadium, Los Blancos simply could not live with City.

Guardiola’s side dominated the opening 45 minutes, pinning Madrid back and barely allowing them a touch.

Bernardo Silva put City in control with a first-half brace, before goals from Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez wrapped up a 5-1 aggregate victory.

City have made a habit of blowing away sides at home in the Champions League this season, beating RB Leipzig 7-0 and Bayern Munich 3-0 before Wednesday’s demolition.

Away from home it’s been a different story, with Guardiola’s side drawing their last five road games in the competition.

Speaking to BT Sport after Wednesday’s win, Grealish admitted his surprise at the stat.

“I saw a stat the other day about Champions League games and I couldn’t believe it – the amount we have won at home compared to away,” Grealish said.

“I think we have drew like five in the Champions League this year away and we’ve won every game at home.

“I don’t know what it is, whether it’s the fans, or just playing on our home pitch. We just feel unstoppable. Even in the league we feel like nobody can beat us.”

Grealish didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet himself, but he was once again excellent.

The England star worked tirelessly for 90 minutes, creating chances for his teammates but also defending when needed to in the second half.

Given his performances over the last few months, he’ll be confident of being in the starting line-up when City take on Inter Milan in the final next month.
