Erling Haaland’s emphatic start to the 2024/2025 season is another reminder of how fortunate Manchester City are to have a striker of his ilk on their books.
Bernardo Silva’s latest admission about Manchester City needing the international break indicates that not much has been going right for the Premier League champions recently.
However, the Norwegian’s form is certainly one facet of Manchester City’s ongoing campaign that has been up to mark — as he has scored 15 goals in all competitions already.
It was reported on Sunday that Haaland’s potential new contract at Manchester City will include him getting staggering weekly wages of £500,000.
The 24-year-old even scored and assisted in Norway’s latest 3-1 win against Slovenia.
However, Pep Guardiola’s side have seemingly set their sights on another incredible goalscorer in the Premier League.

Man City monitoring Alexander Isak
Transfer expert Graeme Bailey has revealed that Manchester City are monitoring Newcastle United number nine Alexander Isak.
The reputed journalist said: “Arsenal and Chelsea are very much on him. City and Liverpool are both keeping tabs because they do both really respect the fact that he’s an awesome player.”
Bailey added: “In terms of the looking at him, in terms of [Benjamin] Sesko and [Viktor] Gyokeres, there’s some very good number nines. [Alexander] Isak is Premier League-proven and ready. He is hugely, highly thought of by so many big clubs. It wouldn’t surprise me if someone really big came in for him. What if Barça come in for [Erling] Haaland? City are doing their homework on potential, they don’t think Haaland will go, they think he’ll sign a new deal.”
“They’re doing their due diligence, you have to know who’s next best. A lot of teams think that Isak is one of the very, very best.”
This season, the 25-year-old has only scored four goals in the Premier League, having started nine out of 11 games for Newcastle.
But last season, Isak bagged an impressive 21 league goals for Eddie Howe’s side in 27 starts, with only Cole Palmer (22) and Haaland (27) outscoring him.
The former Real Sociedad striker scored and assisted in Sweden’s latest 2-1 victory against Slovakia as well.
Pep Guardiola admitted Isak “was a target” for Manchester City
In January, Pep Guardiola admitted that Isak was a transfer target at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola said via Manchester City’s ‘Matchday Live’ show: “The impact that he has had since arriving has been really, really good. He has the conditions to be an incredible striker with his speed, his finishing. At Real Sociedad, we started to follow him, we were impressed.”
“He was a target and a young player, with his skills, all the clubs around the world take a look so it’s not a surprise and I think he adapted really, really well in the Premier League. I don’t know him personally but I admire him a lot.”
In the event that Haaland were to leave Manchester City one day, based on Graeme Bailey’s revelation and Pep Guardiola’s admiration for Isak, it would not emerge as a shock if the club tried to sign him.
For the time being, it seems like the Sky Blues’ priority remains for their star striker to continue leading the line for them.
But it seems like Manchester City are tracking Isak to stay in the loop about his plans for the future.
