Manchester City now want to sign Sam Curtis from St Patrick’s Athletic in the January transfer window.

That is according to 90min.

So, what is the situation involving Manchester City and Sam Curtis? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it was TEAMtalk who first revealed that Manchester City were showing an interest in the 17-year-old.

Now – however – the treble winners are planning to take action in January.

90min believe Manchester City are hoping to sign Curtis this winter, although Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool are also keen on the Irish right-back.

90min add that St Patrick’s Athletic are fully expecting the teenager to depart in January, with Leeds, Celtic, Hull and Middlesbrough also monitoring the situation.

Curtis has scored three goals – while also providing three assists – in 34 Irish Premier Division appearances so far this season.

Who is Manchester City target Sam Curtis?

Well, the Irish Premier Division does not receive a lot of coverage in England, so you may not know much about Curtis.

If that is the case, then a comparison to a better known footballer might help, and the Manchester City target has actually been likened to a household name in Reece James.

However, Curtis – while admiring the Chelsea No.24 from afar – is hoping to make a name for himself rather than simply become another version of the England international.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international told the Irish Independent: “I love Reece James for Chelsea. I look at him and base my game on him, but obviously I want to be the first Sam Curtis, not the next Reece James. There are parts of his game I try to implement in mine. I’m obviously young. I’m going to keep learning and hopefully I can keep getting better each game.”

Curtis sounds like he has a very wise head on his young shoulders, so if a move to Manchester City does materialise in January, he seems mature enough to handle it – be sure to keep an eye on the situation.
