Report: When Man City are most likely to be presented with the Premier League trophy now

Barring accidents, Manchester City will lift the Premier League trophy in front of a home crowd.

City secured an impressive 3-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, with Ilkay Gundogan netting a brace and Erling Haaland scoring his 52nd goal of the season.

The result restored City’s four-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, but things got even better a few hours later when Arsenal played Brighton.

The Gunners slumped to a 0-3 defeat at home, a result that means Pep Guardiola’s side are now almost certain to win the title.

Should Arsenal lose against Nottingham Forest on Saturday then City will be crowned Premier League champions for a third successive season.

An Arsenal win would require City to beat Chelsea on Sunday, while an Arsenal draw would allow City to also drop two points.

According to the Manchester Evening News, if any of those three scenarios play out, City will be presented with the Premier League trophy after facing Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.

However, should the title race continue but City still win, then Guardiola’s side will be presented with the trophy after their final day match against Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium.

That will be the case even if City clinch the title with a win away at Brighton in their penultimate game of the season.

Of City’s six previous title victories, the Blues have only once lifted the trophy away from home.

That happened on the final day of the 2018/19 season, when City won 4-1 at Brighton to pip Liverpool to the title.

When City have previously won the title before the final day – as in 2017/18 and 2020/21 – the trophy presentation took place at the Etihad Stadium.

Before thinking about title celebrations though, City will be focussed on navigating the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Real Marid on Wednesday.
