Manchester City will earn a decent slice of the transfer fee Chelsea have paid for Romeo Lavia.
On Friday Chelsea confirmed that they have signed former City midfielder Lavia from Southampton.
The Premier League giants paid an initial fee of £53 million for the 19-year-old and could pay an additional £5m in potential add-ons.
City sold Lavia to Southampton last summer for an initial fee of £10.5m.
City benefit from Lavia move
The deal that saw Lavia join Southampton from City included a number of conditions including a sell-on clause.
According to the Manchester Evening News Chief City writer Simon Bajkowski, City will earn a cut of between £8m and £9m from the £53m to £58m Southampton will receive for Lavia.
City had a buy-back clause, but it was not due to become active until 2024.

Other reports have claimed that City had the right to match any offer Southampton received for Lavia, but the treble-winners opted against doing so.
The money City will receive from Lavia will push the total income from academy sales this summer to a guaranteed £50.25m, with the potential for another £13.6m in add-ons.
That figure will set a new club record for money earned in a single transfer window from academy sales, with the previous high being the £46.5m guaranteed City made last summer.
This summer City brought in £15m (rising to £19m) from the sale of James Trafford to Burnley, and £13m (rising to £17.1m) from Carlos Borges’ move to Ajax.
Shea Charles’ move to Southampton earned Pep Guardiola’s side £10.5m (rising to £15m), while £1.75m was raised from the sale of Dire Mebude to Westerlo.
Tyler and Jack Fletcher’s moves to Manchester United brought in a further £2m.
The likes of Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Tommy Doyle, Cole Palmer and James McAtee could be sold before the end of the summer window.
