The summer transfer window is nearly upon us and it looks like it could be another busy one for Manchester City.

The season is not even a week old yet for Manchester City but the transfer rumours and speculation have been coming thick and fast.

Not just signings, either, with several crucial stars, like Jack Grealish and Kevin De Bruyne, being linked with moves away from the Etihad Stadium already.

There have been promising murmurings of incoming as well and the need for new recruits will only increase for Pep Guardiola if any of his players leave.

Here are the City squad numbers currently available for any new signing this summer.

No.1

With the futures of Ederson and Stefan Ortega uncertain, City could be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper. Any incoming shot-stopper could be the first to wear No.1 since Claudio Bravo in 2020.

No.7

Joao Cancelo’s time at the club has finally come to an end and, as a result, his No.7 shirt has become available again.

No.12

The No.12 is another number that hasn’t had a wearer since 2020, with left-back Angelino the last to sport it in a City shirt.

No.13

Zack Steffen’s permanent departure in early 2024 freed up the No.13 shirt though it’s usually a number selected by reserve goalkeepers rather than outfielders.

No.14

Perhaps the most desirable number currently available this summer, the No.14 has been made iconic by several legends in the game including the likes of Johan Cruyff and Thierry Henry.

Centre-back Aymeric Laporte was the last to wear it at City before he left for Saudi Arabia in 2023.

No.15

No.15 is also free and hasn’t been worn by a City player since the departure of centre-back Eliaquim Mangala in 2019.

No. 21

Vacated by Sergio Gomez following his move to Real Sociedad this summer.

No.22

The number was vacated in 2023.

No.28

The No.28 has been up for grabs since 2016 but no player has taken it up as of yet. Jason Deneyer wore it last.

No.29

Also available for the last eight years, No.29 was last worn by former goalkeeper Richard Wright.

No.30

Nicolas Otamendi was the last and only significant player in City’s history to wear the No.30. He left the club in 2021.

Numbers 4 and 7 are currently occupied by out-on-loan players Kalvin Phillips and Joao Cancelo, respectively.

City don’t tend to give the squad numbers of loanees away but the digits could become available if they depart permanently.

There are also a host of numbers north of 30 available for new players but some, like 31, 33, 47, 52, 56, 76, 82, 87 and 92, are all currently taken.
