Man City striker Erling Haaland reacts after captaining Norway to 5-1 defeat to Austria

Last night there were wins for the likes of John Stones, Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker – but it wasn’t a good night for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.

England managed to beat Finland 3-1 in their lastest Nations League match.

Manchester City winger Grealish opened the scoring after some lovely play by Angel Gomes to get him in, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Declan Rice scoring in the second-half before Finland grabbed a late consolation.

Fans praised Grealish for his display against Finland, and it was a good night overall for the 29-year-old.

But for Haaland and Norway, it was a frustrating night indeed.

Just days after Haaland became Norway’s all-time top goalscorer, they were beaten 5-1 by Ralf Rangnick’s Austria.

Haaland took to social media last night to send a message to fans.

By and large it has been a really good season so far for Haaland.

The 24-year-old has been in superb form and been really clinical in front of goal, scoring 11 goals for City so far.

And before this game with Austria, he had scored three for Norway in Nations League games.

But Haaland couldn’t stop his side from getting hammered. The hosts went ahead early through Marko Arnautovic with a sensational finish from outside the box.

Norway did get level through Alexander Sorloth but in the second-half, Austria ran riot.

Arnautovic got his second from the penalty spot, before Phillipp Lienhart, Stefan Posch and Michael Gregoritsch all scored.

It was a quiet night for Haaland, who ended up having 22 touches in the game (via Sofascore).

He had a chance in the first-half but was veering wide and could only hit the side netting.

After the game, Haaland – who wore the captain’s armband – sent a message to fans on his Instagram Story apologising: “Sorry sadle samen! Too bad from my side. In November I go for 6p (points).”

A night to forget for Haaland

So it was a thumping defeat for Norway, and there was little Haaland could do to prevent the end scoreline.

He wasn’t too involved in the game, and if a team can keep him quiet then they are always going to stand a decent chance of getting something.

Goals – 34
Assists – 3

Haaland will now return to City and hope to make a big impact in the club’s next game against Wolves on Sunday.

It’s actually back-to-back games without scoring in the Premier League for Haaland and the number nine will be determined to get back on the scoresheet at Molineux.

Haaland has a whopping eight goals against Wolves already in his career, and he has only scored more against RB Leipzig (12), so he’ll certainly be confident.
