Manchester City are set to complete the sale of Carlos Borges today – but he will not be joining West Ham United.
Borges had long been linked with a move to the UEFA Europa Conference League champions.
A verbal agreement was in place for him to join them for £14 million.
But last night, it was reported that Ajax had performed a hijack.
Borges will now move to the Eredivisie to join the Dutch giants.
And Fabrizio Romano, who broke the news of the hijack, has provided some more details this morning.
Carlos Borges to Ajax is imminent
So last night there was word of Ajax hijacking West Ham’s move for Borges.
Now, Romano has given some more details about the move.
He says that the player has actually already completed his medical tests.
The Dutch giants will pay City a £17 million flat fee, and the club have been able to negotiate a buyback and sell-on clause.
According to Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News, this sell-on clause is 20%.
It is expected that an official announcement will be made at some points today.
Another brilliant bit of business by Man City
It has been a bit slow on the incomings front so far this summer. But City are about to make another brilliant sale here.
Borges never played a single minute for City’s first-team.
And yet here they are selling him for £17 million, and also including buyback and sell-on clauses.

It just shows how good the club are at protecting themselves later down the line.
Borges could absolutely thrive in the Netherlands. There is a good chance he’ll develop really well at Ajax, as young talents tend to.
So it’s good to know that City will be able to potentially get him back later down the line. Or if they don’t, then they will still be in line for a windfall.
