It has been reported that RB Leipzig have turned down an initial £64.4 million offer from Manchester City to sell Josko Gvardiol.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano, after club director Max Eberl confirmed on Monday that a move could be finalised imminently.

However, RB Leipzig are seemingly ready to play hard-ball with Manchester City, as they intend to get their money’s worth from potentially parting ways with Josko Gvardiol.

Fabrizio Romano: RB Leipzig reject £64.4 million offer from Manchester City in Josko Gvardiol transfer saga

Branded as ‘unreal’ by GiveMeSport, the 21-year-old is the embodiment of a true generational talent.

As a result, one can understand why the Bundesliga giants have no interest in settling for a fee when they have the chance of pulling off a world-record transfer with the Croatian defender’s sale.

According to Fabrizio Romano, that is the strategy at RB Leipzig when it comes to potentially selling Josko Gvardiol to Manchester City.

“Red Bull Leipzig are insisting on €100 million at least for Josko Gvardiol. They want that money for their centre-back to be the most expensive in the history of the game.”

“From Manchester City, the idea is an opening proposal of €75 (£64.4 million) or €80 million (£68.7 million), plus add-ons. This is the idea at City.”

Fabrizio Romano went on to report that Manchester City saw their initial offer snubbed by RB Leipzig for the services of Josko Gvardiol.

“What I can reveal, guys is that Manchester City already approached Red Bull Leipzig with a verbal discussion of something around €75 million (£64.4 million) plus add-ons and from Leipzig, they were absolutely not happy with that kind of idea.”

Josko Gvardiol is worth such a whopping fee

Despite Josko Gvardiol being such a young player, Manchester City cannot be faulted if they reach an agreement with RB Leipzig to shell out a world-record £85.9 million fee to sign him.

The former Dinamo Zagreb wonderkid is simply one of the most complete profiles at centre-back one has seen in ages.

Both on and off the ball, as well as athletically, Gvardiol virtually has no flaws in his arsenal.

Whilst his experience of playing in a back three as well as a makeshift left-back makes him ideal in Pep Guardiola’s current tactical setup.

Years down the line, the youngster could be leading the Sky Blues’ backline, whilst being the best centre-back in the world by a country mile, which could make the potentially hefty investment a bargain in the long run.
