Manchester City may have received a boost in their pursuit of Mateo Kovacic, who has publicly complimented the club.

The Croatia international has given an interview about his future, with the star having been the subject of speculation recently.

Kovacic’s current deal with Chelsea expires in the summer of 2024.

There has been no indication that he will sign an extension.

And just recently, City have become strongly linked with the 29-year-old. Apparently, positive talks have been held and Kovacic could genuinely make a switch to the Etihad. Pep Guardiola has apparently been a fan for some time.

And he’s now made some comments to add fuel to the fire.

“That’s what I have to say. The summer is long, we’ll see what happens.

“Chelsea for me is phenomenal. I love the city and the fans, they love me. I have wonderful memories of Chelsea. We’ll see what happens.”

Kovacic is not the only Chelsea midfielder set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

N’Golo Kante is joining Al-Ittihad, while Mason Mount has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United.

Mateo Kovacic comments suggest there’s a strong chance he’ll become a Manchester City player this summer

These are some very encouraging comments from Kovacic going into the summer.

At this point, him remaining at Chelsea does not feel at all likely. Especially given the season they just had.

Chelsea will not be playing in any European competition next season, so if Kovacic has a way to leave the club then he will surely take the plunge.

And he’ll surely find it very difficult to say no to City, who have expressed strong interest.

He will likely feel that he could take his game to the next level working under Pep Guardiola and around world-class players.
