It has been reported that Kalvin Phillips intends to stay at Manchester City in the summer, rejecting a potential transfer to Newcastle United in the process.

This comes from the Telegraph, as the £45 million (Sky Sports) man’s future has been up in the air for the past couple of months.

However, it seems like Kalvin Phillips has no intentions to leave Manchester City in favour of a move to Newcastle United.

Kalvin Phillips primed to reject Newcastle transfer in favour of Manchester City stay

The England international has started a mere four games in all competitions this season, owing to injuries and a lack of trust from Pep Guardiola as his side have been gunning to win the treble.

With the Leeds United hero, branded as an ‘intelligent player’ by Pep Guardiola in the prime of his career at 27, many tipped him to eye an exit in search of regular playing time.

However, Kalvin Phillips has seemingly put all such suggestions to bed as he aims to stay at Manchester City and fight for a place in the side instead of heading to Newcastle.

Eddie Howe’s side are believed to have been left ‘frustrated’ after being informed about the double winner’s plans by his camp, as they were told that a transfer could well have been on the cards.

Phillips may have taken inspiration from some of his teammates at City

The likes of Jack Grealish, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Rodri and Joao Cancelo struggled to impress in their debut seasons at the Etihad Stadium.

This has become a common theme for a number of Manchester City signings while acclimatising to the Pep Guardiola way, which may have inspired Kalvin Phillips to have done the same instead of jump ship by joining Newcastle.

However, in each aforementioned case, the player in question transformed into an instrumental cog of the side in the following campaigns.

Phillips is ultimately right to have reportedly taken this decision, as learning from Guardiola at a team that could potentially win the treble is the best destination possible for any footballer in the world.
