Manchester City have only seen one new face join the club during the current summer transfer window.

Specifically, City announced the arrival of Savinho from Troyes last month as their first and only incoming signing of the summer so far.

Despite that, the Blues have still been linked with moves for numerous players across Europe.

In fact, an update has now come to light regarding one of those players, who Pep Guardiola knows all about.

Journalist shares update on Joshua Kimmich amid Man City transfer interest

Back in June, The Mirror reported that City are in pole position to sign Joshua Kimmich this summer as the German is set to enter the final year of his contract at Bayern Munich.

With Paris Saint-Germain also reportedly interested in Kimmich (via RMC Sport), journalist Florian Plettenberg has now shared a significant update about the player and what the future could hold for him in a recent post shared on his official X account.

He said: “Joshua #Kimmich has rejected the possibility to join Paris Saint-Germain in August. PSG have informed FC Bayern about their concrete interest to sign him but Kimmich said no.

“Bayern informed about his decision to stay. First positive talks about a new contract beyond 2025 have started now. Bayern need to find a solution as they won’t lose him for free next year.

“With a suitable offer, they would have sold him this summer. A contract extension with a salary waiver is now conceivable for both parties. However, it will not be decided in the short term.”

City may have to move quickly to sign Kimmich

During his time at the Bundesliga side, the 29-year-old has made 390 appearances for Bayern across all competitions, scoring 42 goals and supplying 104 assists along the way.

Described as a “phenomenal” player by Jose Mourinho (via DAZN), Kimmich made 36 appearances under Guardiola during his three-year tenure in charge of Bayern.

With the summer window set to close at the end of the month, this update from Plettenberg suggests to us that City may have to hurry up if they want to land a deal for Kimmich before he potentially puts pen to paper on a new deal at Bayern.
