‘Easily’: £15m Premier League star makes Man City treble claim

A Premier League footballer has backed Manchester City to win the treble this season after he was left open-mouthed by a recent performance.

City wrapped up a third consecutive Premier League title last weekend with three games to spare, and now have a unique chance to win a coveted treble.

Pep Guardiola’s side ended their league campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Brentford on Sunday, but in truth, attentions had likely already turned to the two upcoming cup finals.

City will take on neighbours Manchester United in the FA Cup final on Saturday, with United keen to prevent City replicating their 1999 treble feat.

A week later City will look to win the Champions League for the first time in their history when they face Inter in Istanbul.

City are favourites to win in both matches, and not just among fans and pundits.

Current Premier League players have been open in their praise of City this season, and the latest to do so is Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.

The English midfielder has impressed in his first season at the City Ground since joining from Wolves last summer, playing a key role in keeping Forest in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old faced City twice this season, but what convinced him of their treble credential was the way they dismantled Real Madrid a few weeks ago.

“With the way they’re going on – easily,” Gibbs-White told Kick Game when asked if City will win all three major competitions.

“I watched the Real Madrid game, and what they did to an incredible Madrid team was scary. I think in the first 40 minutes, I think for completed passes City had 180 and Real Madrid had 40.

“I’ve never seen anything like it, it was the best performance I’ve ever seen by far.”

City ran riot at the Etihad Stadium in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final, with goals from Bernardo Silva, Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez putting the reigning European Champions to the sword.

If City replicate that performance against United and Inter then there will be no stopping them.
