There have been a few examples of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur conducting transfer business between themselves in the summer window.
The most notable piece of business between both clubs was when Pep Guardiola’s side signed Kyle Walker in 2017 from a Spurs side that was managed by Mauricio Pochettino.
Walker revealed he spoke to Pep Guardiola in the summer ahead of his move and went on to speak with the Manchester City boss’ brother who stressed how much the club aspired to secure his services.
Another popular transfer that occurred between both clubs was when Tottenham signed Emmanuel Adebayor from City.
Adebayor, who also went to Real Madrid on loan went on to sign for the North London side.
Vedran Corluka’s exit from the Etihad Stadium to sign for Tottenham was another key move that involved both clubs.

Man City compete with Real Madrid to sign £80 million-rated Pedro Porro
Pedro Porro is another player who has played for both Manchester City and Tottenham.
Unlike at City, the Spanish international played competitive fixtures for Spurs and is their first-choice right-back.
According to a report by GiveMeSport, Tottenham have set an asking price of £80 million to sell Porro, who Manchester City have set their sights on signing.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have named such a whopping fee as their priority remains to keep the 25-year-old at their disposal while not bolstering any of their domestic rivals’ ranks.
While the report has claimed that Manchester City fancy themselves to get a deal over the line for Porro as they did with Walker, Real Madrid, who are also keen on his signature could be handed the chance to sign him on more affordable terms.
Los Blancos are believed to view the former Sporting CP right-back as the long-term heir to Dani Caravajal.
Another factor where Manchester City’s confidence about signing Porro stems from is the fact that Tottenham privately feel that with how much his market value has increased since signing for them has led to them not ruling out the possibility on cashing in on the highly-rated defender.
While City are claimed to be satisfied with Rico Lewis’ development, they have set their sights on adding more experience to their squad.
Described as “super” by Ange Postecouglou in October while speaking to SPURSPLAY as well as a “very good footballer” from a technical standpoint and a “great athlete”, Porro seems to be highly admired by his manager.
Pep Guardiola admitted Porro was on Man City shortlist in 2023
After Joao Cancelo was shipped out to Bayern Munich on loan in January last year, City were a full-back short and that too one who was similarly dangerous going forward.
Porro, who was increasingly being linked with a transfer away from Sporting had a buy-back clause in his contract that allowed the Premier League winners to sign him for £16.9 million at the time – as per Manchester Evening News.
For other clubs, however, such as Tottenham, they would have to pay £38 million to sign him.
After Porro signed for Tottenham, Pep Guardiola admitted that he was on the club’s transfer shortlist as a potential replacement for Cancelo.
Guardiola said via Manchester Evening News journalist Joe Bray: “Perfect to play five at the back [in Antonio Conte’s system at the time], last season we suffer when we play against Sporting. This season, Tottenham versus Sporting, a good signing for Spurs.”
“No [we didn’t think about re-signing], he was on the list but we didn’t think about the buy-back. He decides to go to Spurs.”
Whether Manchester City ramp their efforts to sign Porro or decide to let Real Madrid have a clear run at signing him will be interesting to see.
The fact that City did not even consider re-signing the now-Tottenham defender despite Cancelo’s absence at the time perhaps indicates that there may have been a change in heart in how they view him now.
