Man City will only sell their defender to Borussia Dortmund if they pay £25m

It has been reported that Manchester City have now set their asking price in case Borussia Dortmund intend to sign one of their players this summer.

Pep Guardiola’s men have already made one key sale by letting Liam Delap sign for Ipswich Town for an initial £15 million followed by £5 million in add-ons (BBC Sport) — which meant his four-year spell has come to an end.

Another key sale Manchester City made was Sergio Gomez for €10million (£8.5 million), as per The Athletic.

While much of the focus is on elite sides like City’s incomings, they will have to sell players to be able to invest heavily in the transfer market; despite being one of the richest clubs in world football.

However, in their first-team, due to having quite a small squad, not many players would be considered unimportant enough to sell unless an offer comes through.

One player who has attracted interest from a top European club Borussia Dortmund is Yan Couto.

How much Man City want to sell Yan Couto for to Borussia Dortmund

The German giants have only Julian Ryerson on their books as a natural right-back.

Understandably, Nuri Sahin’s side wish to reinforce a potential problem area in their squad.

But it was claimed by Fabrizio Romano on Monday that Dortmund are only willing to pay a fee between €20 million (£16.8 million) to €25 million (£21 million) to sign the City defender.

However, journalist Patrick Berger has revealed on X that Manchester City are demanding Borussia Dortmund to shell out around a €30 million (£25.1 million) fee to offload Couto.

Selling Couto to Dortmund should be an easy deal for Man City if that is the case

Considering Couto is just 22 and has come off the back of an impressive loan stint at Girona, Borussia Dortmund should be happy to pay just £25.1 million to sign him from Manchester City.

The youngster’s technical security, attacking endeavour and fearlessness going forward would make him tailor-made for a division like the Bundesliga — where games are often end-to-end.

Considering Dortmund are believed to be open to paying £21 million to sign Couto, an additional £4 million investment should logically not put them off from the deal.

Manchester City will be hoping to offload the former Curitiba-born right-back as soon as possible to invest the fee he generates into the transfer market.
