A Manchester City player who would particularly be disappointed after his side were battered 4-1 by Sporting CP is Erling Haaland.

Haaland had the chance to kickstart a potential City comeback after the visitors were handed quite a fortunate penalty.

This season alone, City have conceded first in six out of their 10 Premier League games, winning five matches in such circumstances.

Pundit and former Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips pinpointed that it was unusual to see Haaland aim high while taking his penalty against Sporting.

Wright-Phillips said on City’s official post-match live show: “For me, I’m used to seeing him do low and hard, not seeing him aim that high. And if you aim that high, there’s always that element that it can keep rising or rises too early and that is normally the end result.”

“But for people like Haaland, they have games where they miss chances. It doesn’t stop him, this seems to fuel him and feed him in terms of now he wants to correct that in every way and that’s on the pitch and if a penalty comes again, he’ll be working and stuff for that.”

“For him to miss a penalty, people have to understand he’s human.”

The 24-year-old will naturally be disappointed not to have scored — failing to do so in his last two starts for Manchester City.
