John Stones’ winner against Wolves would have strengthened the belief within the Manchester City dressing room that they can go and win the Premier League again this season.

After the contest, Stones revealed Manchester City have been working “super hard” on set-pieces.

Manchester City earned the fruits of their labour in the 95th minute as Phil Foden’s delivery was as brilliant as his fellow countryman’s header.

Jack Grealish hailed Stones after Manchester City beat Wolves alongside Stefan Ortega, Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake on his post-match Instagram post.

Daniel Sturridge felt Stones’ goal against Wolves should not have stood — a view not shared by Micah Richards.

Pep Guardiola felt Stones’ goal was rightly awarded against Wolves in the aftermath of the clash.

John Stones has as many goals as Bukayo Saka in the Premier League this season

Nonetheless, the English centre-back will be over the moon.

Upon returning from the international break, the 30-year-old would have been looking to make an impression in a City shirt.

With his second goal in the Premier League season after scoring against Arsenal as well, Stones has as many goals as Bukayo Saka this campaign.

The Arsenal winger has scored against Wolves and Southampton while assisting seven goals this season.

The 23-year-old will be determined to bag goals more as the campaign progresses — especially considering a centre-back like Stones has as many to his name as him in the league.

Similarly, Josko Gvardiol has scored as many away goals as Mohamed Salah in the league this year.

10 attackers Stones has as many or more goals than this season

For a centre-back, a tally of two goals in eight league games is an impressive tally.

Especially considering the six-time Premier League winner has started a mere two games.

The former Everton defender has never been one associated with being a goalscorer as such. Here is a list of 10 attackers who Stones has as many or more goals than in the league this campaign.

Apart from Saka, there are plenty of players level on goals with Stones this season.

But more notably, there are plenty of attackers like Rasmus Hojlund and Alexander Isak who have not even outscored the decorated centre-back.

Stones has every reason to be proud of the goalscoring form he is in.

The Manchester City colossus should hope to add more goals to his arsenal moving forward.
