Manchester City were handed the best possible news as Pep Guardiola has reportedly agreed to sign a one-year contract extension until 2026, with an option to extend his deal for an additional year.

Manchester City fans reacted to Guardiola’s contract update with a unanimous feeling of joy.

It seems like Pep Guardiola remains satisfied at City and continues to strive to cement his legacy as one of the greatest managers in the history of the game.

From Manchester City’s perspective, they have managed to keep arguably the best coach in the world for another full season at the very least.

Only time will tell whether Guardiola decides to stay at the Etihad Stadium beyond 2026.

But as things stand, City supporters will only be focusing on the present and basking in the glory of the news that Guardiola looks set to stay at the club for a longer time.

Rival fans left fuming by Guardiola contract extension at Man City

When the Catalan headed to English shores in 2016, it seemed unlikely that he would stay at Manchester City longer than he did at his boyhood club Barcelona in particular.

However, Guardiola could be set to stay for a decade at City while he departed Blaugrana just four seasons into his legendary spell.

Manchester City’s rival supporters are devastated to have discovered that Pep Guardiola looks destined to continue managing the champions of England.

An Arsenal fan wrote: “I’m exhausted just thinking about another two seasons of Pep [Guardiola] at City.”

A Manchester United fan said: “I’m so tired of this Pep guy.”

A Liverpool fan wrote: “[Arne] Slot needs to win the league now because this Pep news could kill our title.”

Which Pep Guardiola alternatives did Man City consider?

It was reported on Tuesday that Manchester City drew up alternatives for Pep Guardiola in case he left at the end of the season.

One of the names City reportedly kept a close eye on was Xabi Alonso.

Last Thursday, it was revealed that Alonso will leave Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025.

But it seems like Manchester City had no reason to consider the Bundesliga winner as a potential replacement for Pep Guardiola.

City will be delighted that Guardiola has seemingly signed on the dotted line.

As for Manchester City supporters, they will be relieved that the uncertainty surrounding Guardiola’s future seems to over.
