Manchester City have now sold Zack Steffen to Colorado Rapids – and those at the Major League Soccer outfit are delighted.
Chris Armas – Manager of the MLS side – and Club President Pádraig Smith have both shared their thoughts on the deal.
So, what has been said as Manchester City wave goodbye to Zack Steffen? Let’s take a look…
Colorado Rapids overjoyed with Zack Steffen deal
Well, the United States international has sealed a $3m (£2.4m) move back to America’s top-flight.
It means Manchester City have taken a small loss on the £7m spent to sign Steffen from Columbus Crew SC in 2019.
Nevertheless, the 28-year-old was always going to struggle for action under Pep Guardiola as Ederson and Stefan Ortega sat above him in the pecking order, and by the sounds of it, he will be far more valued in Colorado.
Speaking to the MLS outfit’s official website, Armas said: “We are incredibly happy to bring Zack to the club. He is a top player with big experiences, and we know he will add so much to our group. His quality, leadership and winning mentality will help us for years to come.”

Club President Smith added: “Zack is an elite level goalkeeper with a wealth of experience internationally and in MLS. His exceptional skills, experience, and proven track record make him a valuable addition to our roster. His character and mentality will greatly benefit our team. We’re thrilled to bolster our backline with his signing and look forward to welcoming him to Colorado.”
Steffen last appeared for Manchester City 21 months ago in that nightmarish 3-2 defeat to Liverpool in the 2022 FA Cup semi-final, in which the 28-year-old was tackled by Sadio Mane on the goal line to put the Reds 2-0 up after just 17 minutes.
Manchester City fans will surely be pleased for Zack Steffen
While things did not work out for the American at the Etihad Stadium, it is pleasing to see Armas and Smith express such excitement over his arrival.

That aforementioned day at Wembley must have been a sickening experience for Steffen – who recently heaped praise on Riyad Mahrez – although he can now focus on a new adventure as one of the big names in MLS.
