Former Queens Park Rangers boss Gareth Ainsworth believes Kevin De Bruyne might be the best player in the Premier League.

After Manchester City ground out a 2-0 victory against Everton, Nathan Ake admitted how seamlessly the 32-year-old has returned to impacting proceedings after his injury has come as a surprise.

Shaun Wright-Phillips claimed that the Etihad Stadium felt much more alive after the Belgian skipper was brought on as a substitute against Sean Dyche’s side.

Gareth Ainsworth says Kevin De Bruyne might be the best player in the Premier League

Recently, Jamie Carragher went as far as to say that the treble-winner has been the best player in the English top-flight for four to five years.

In fact, Carragher had also claimed that the £400,000-a-week (Sport Rac) man would get into an all-time Premier League XI.

Now, Gareth Ainsworth believes Kevin De Bruyne could be the best player in the Premier League.

“One of the best [players], if not the best player in the Premier League for me. His assists, his vision, on transitions, he’s just superb, gets the ball and you saw there [for the second goal against Everton], he’s looked up, checked the whole of the pitch, he’s scanned the whole of the pitch and just picks that right ball”, he told Sky Sports.

“We’ve seen him do it time after time after time and for me, both of these players [Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland], key. Key times, key moments, key time of the season to have them back. And I think they’re going to be key to what City achieve this season.”

Kevin De Bruyne could be the most in-form player in the Premier League as well

While many would likely agree with Gareth Ainsworth about Kevin De Bruyne, even as far as form goes, there are not many who are currently performing better than him.

Not only has the former VFL Wolfsburg midfielder been extremely impactful to City’s winning run but more importantly, the context of his performances makes his displays all the more impressive.

Both against Newcastle United and Everton, the game was heading towards a draw before his introduction.

Similarly, against Brentford, De Bruyne’s tremendous assist for Foden emerged when the score was 1-1.

While against Burnley, Kevin De Bruyne was one of, if not the best player on the pitch alongside perhaps Julian Alvarez and Rodri.

To perform like the five-time Premier League winner has with his team being in a tightly-contested title race makes him a candidate for being the most in-form player in the country.
