As Manchester City drew 1-1 against Bayern Munich in second leg of the Champions League quarter-final, Kevin De Bruyne won the Man of the Match award.

The £54 million (Guardian) man put the decisive assist on the plate for Erling Haaland, who opened the scoring after his penalty miss in the first half.

It seems as if just for that vital contribution alone, Kevin De Bruyne was given the Man of the Match award as Manchester City beat Bayern Munich 4-1 on aggregate.

The Belgian midfielder, described as a ‘top player’ by Marc Cucurella was not at his brilliant best on the day, albeit having a number of magical moments in what was a quality display from him.

However, the 31-year-old has a habit of producing something out of nothing as he turned the game on its head with a wonderful through ball onto Erling Haaland, who did what he does best.

After Manchester City ground out a draw against Bayern, Kevin De Bruyne was awarded the Man of the Match as his side secured a place in the Champions League semi-final.

MCN View: Other Manchester City players were more deserving of the accolade

It certainly is not the biggest deal in the world that Kevin De Bruyne bagged the award, considering the fact that he did perform well on the night.

However, instead of De Bruyne, other Sky Blues players certainly stood out more against Bayern such as Ederson, Ruben Dias, Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva to name a few.

There is no denying that regardless of what has been said, the midfield maestro’s tendency of always turning up when the lights are the brightest is remarkable.

Despite being eight years into his City career, he remains arguably the side’s biggest game-changer to this day.
