As Manchester City came out on top against Bayern Munich after a 2-1 victory, courtesy of goals from James McAtee and Aymeric Laporte to cancel out Mathys Tel’s equaliser, we decided to cover their player ratings from the clash.

Manchester City player ratings vs Bayern Munich

Ederson- 4/10

The Brazilian international stepped up when called upon twice with solid saves, however, he had a couple of avoidable lapses of concentration. And for Mathys Tel’s equaliser, he should have simply collected the ball. Poor finish to an otherwise solid evening.

Kyle Walker- 7/10

The England international, who was speculated to have been excluded from the game against Bayern Munich was reliable as ever in what could potentially have been his final game in a Manchester City shirt. Defensively, the 33-year-old was brilliant, showcasing that his pace remains top-drawer in 1v1 battles, while his clever pass was key in the build-up to James McAtee’s strike.

John Stones- 5/10

John Stones was typically crisp on the ball and almost came close to scoring in yet another friendly clash.

Ruben Dias- 6/10

Manchester City colossus Ruben Dias once again exhibited against Bayern Munich why he is one of the best pure defenders in the world. The Portuguese defender’s last-gasp tackles and challenges were spot on up against some of the opposition’s dangerous forwards, as is standard procedure in his case at this point.

Nathan Ake- 6/10

Much like Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake’s last-ditch defending was brilliant, especially when he kept Jamal Musiala’s close-range effort at bay.

Rico Lewis- 9/10 (Man of the Match)

As Manchester City and Bayern Munich faced off in a much-awaited friendly, there were two words to sum up the first half: Rico Lewis. The Englishman operated in a right-sided midfield role and looked ice-cold as ever.

The manner in which Lewis dribbled past opponents, showcased his flicks and tricks and set up James McAtee’s opener was stunning. Despite still being a teenager, the Sky Blues academy graduate looked like a master of his craft.

Mateo Kovacic- 7/10

The £25 million man (Sky Sports) was much more comfortable in his second game in sky blue, both on and off the ball.

James McAtee- 7/10

Considering James McAtee opened the scoring for Manchester City against Bayern, he deserves plenty of credit, even if his all-round display was slightly subdued.

Bernardo Silva- 5/10

Bernardo Silva was busy as per usual, keeping the ball adeptly and transitioning from right-wing to central midfield. However, the Portuguese international did not particularly stand out.

Julian Alvarez- 6/10

The World Cup winner dropped deep impressively, as his link-up play was quality as well as his overall endeavour on the day.

Jack Grealish- 5/10

While Manchester City attacker Jack Grealish was involved in attacks against Bayern Munich from time to time, he did not particularly have the impact he usually does.

Substitutes:

Manuel Akanji- 6/10

Solid on the ball, while defensively, the Swiss international was reliable when called upon.

Joao Cancelo- 6/10

While it seems unlikely that Joao Cancelo will remain a Manchester City player next season, it is worth saying that he is still an elite full-back, as his technical excellence stood out in moments against Bayern Munich. Defensively as well, the Portuguese international was reliable.

Aymeric Laporte- 7/10

Aymeric Laporte did not have much defending to do on the night but ultimately, he deserves his flowers for putting the ball into the back of the net from close quarters.

Rodri- 6/10

Considering Rodri was not challenged on the day, he just went about his business quietly and performed well.

Kalvin Phillips- 5/10

Improved as the second half wore on but he was sloppy on and off the ball at times.

Phil Foden- 6/10

Phil Foden was not as effective against Bayern Munich as he was on Sunday but as Manchester City scored a late winner on the day, his assist led to the strike. Foden’s passing and ball retention was crisp and at the end of the day, it was a solid, if not spectacular display from him.

Maximo Perrone- 6/10

Maximo Perrone deserves massive credit for his defence splitting-pass that led to Aymeric Laporte’s winner. Every time the Argentine comes off the bench, he has an impact for the Sky Blues.

Sergio Gomez- 5/10

Looks more comfortable on the left-wing but was far better against Yokohama F.Marinos.

Oscar Bobb- 6/10

Direct, technically secure and confident but struggled to get into the game from time to time. Considering Bobb’s critical assessment about his brilliant performance last time around, one expects him to be quite self-effacing of his outing on Wednesday.

Erling Haaland- 6/10

Erling Haaland tried his best to get on the scoresheet against Bayern Munich but the service from Manchester City was not the best for him to do what he does best.
