Manchester City could potentially make a move for Brazilian midfielder Andre as a potential alternative to Lucas Paqueta.

City were linked with a move for Paqueta at the end of the last transfer window, but a move did not materialise after the FA launched an inquiry into suspicious betting activity involving the player.

City have remained linked with Paqueta, but one would imagine West Ham would not like to sell one of their best players in the middle of the season.

Joao Palhinha has been mentioned as a player City could swoop for next month. But now, another name has been thrown into the mix…

The Daily Star claimed last night that City were keen on Palhinha, but also stated that Andre is a potential transfer target for Pep Guardiola.

Andre, 22, plays for Fluminense and is one of Brazil’s most exciting rising stars and recently, he played a big role in Fluminense’s run to their maiden Copa Libertadores success.

He has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool recently, while Arsenal and Manchester United have also been mentioned as potential suitors.

But City could also make a move, with Kalvin Phillips expected to leave the club next month. Phillips has once again really struggled for game time this season, and has been linked with the likes of Newcastle United and Juventus.

City tend not to do much business in January. But the team have been struggling in recent weeks and Pep Guardiola may well look to shake things up with an addition or two next month.

Andre is a top prospect

Andre has really been impressing over in Brazil, having now clocked up 168 appearances for Fluminense.

That’s quite a good level of experience for one still relatively young, and you would imagine he will go on to become a top player.

Andre, who is already capped by Brazil, is ‘outstanding on the ball’ and someone who ‘recycles possession quickly and effectively’, according to GOAL, which suggests him as being well very suited to City.

Goal’s feature also talks about how Andre does not really feel pressure, and has been referred to previously as the ’21-year-old veteran’.

Should City wish to sign Andre, it’s possible Txiki Begiristain will have to fork out £35 million, which is reported by GOAL to be his buyout clause.
