Manchester City could now have a second chance to sign Matija Popovic after AC Milan experienced a new problem.

That is according to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.

So, what is the latest on Matija Popovic and Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

Manchester City could now have 2nd chance to sign Popovic

Well, it was Fabrizio Romano who claimed on Tuesday that AC Milan were all set to sign the Serbian wonderkid – despite a late hijack attempt from Manchester City.

Now, however – according to Longo – the deal is in jeopardy following late issues involving his agent.

The Italian journalist wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “Breaking – The negotiation between Milan and Popovic’s agents is not unblocked. The club is very lukewarm on the entourage’s requests. Matija wants to wear the Rossoneri but it’s not enough.”

Longo added that AC Milan were also unhappy at the 18-year-old’s entourage arriving in Milan unexpectedly, writing: “Popovic: the unarranged arrival in Milan (and consequently also a certain type of media coverage) was not appreciated by Milan who saw it as a stretch.”

If these problems are not resolved, it opens the door for Manchester City to make another hijack attempt to sign the Serbia U17 international – who the Guardian compared to Swansea cult hero Michu, a player Erling Haaland idolises.

Next generation of Manchester City looks very promising

Manchester City already boast the best team in Europe, and Txiki Begiristain is working on maintaining that success by signing some real gems.

The Spaniard has already sealed deals for River Plate wonderkid Claudio Echeverri and Leeds United diamond Finlay Gorman, both of whom are expected to be stars of the future.

Manchester City also have a number of young talents set to dominate Europe for years anyway, such as Phil Foden, Rico Lewis, Josko Gvardiol, Julian Alvarez and Haaland.

Therefore, regardless of whether Begiristain adds Popovic to the pile or not, Manchester City appear to be in very fine shape for years to come.
